- Ice dams: These are pretty common when heavy snow falls on your roof. As the snow starts to melt and drain towards the gutters, the water then settles and freezes. Causing what we would refer to as an “ice dam”. An ice dam can cause severe damage to your property. The ice dams can block the water from reaching the gutters and can backup beneath the shingles and begin to leak in into your property.
- Changes to surfaces: If you start to notice a disparity or discoloration in your flooring, walls, or ceilings, then there’s a possibility you are experiencing water damage. It can come in the form of peeling paint or wallpaper. Sometimes, your carpet may feel wet or spongy.
- Mold: Sustained moisture in the house can lead to mold growth. It is very easy for carpeting, walls, ceilings, and many other things in the home to harbor mold. The presence of mold can lead to health risks and allergy attacks. If you notice any signs of mold, then you are probably experiencing water damage.
- Musty odors: It usually smells like damp clothing, and it is most active in the affected area. Take time to track the source of the smell. Odors are common in basements and attics but are not restricted to these areas.
