Water Damage

5 Warning Signs of a Burst Pipe in Your Home

January 9, 2023

Fluctuating water pressure: If you notice the water pressure from your faucets begins to fluctuate, it’s a sign that there’s a burst pipe in your house.

Little water leaks: If you notice small puddles under your sink, or strange watermarks appearing on drywall, that can be an indicator of a burst pipe.

Change in color of water: This usually comes from rust. PVC and PEX pipes release microscopic rust particles, and this could create a conducive environment for bacteria. Rusty pipes can be harmful to your health, especially if you drink water straight from the faucet.

Foul smell: If your water starts smelling like rotten eggs, it’s a sign that there’s a burst pipe somewhere in your house. Sometimes, the affected area could smell damp.

Keep your ears out: If you hear gurgling, bubbling, or whistling noises inside walls, these could be signs of water leaking from an area. Pipes could rub and bang at tension points and potentially cause noises. This friction tends to lead to more damage.

Increase in water bills: A little leakage could lead to a tremendous increase in monthly water bills. Small drips from faucets can lead to 100 gallons of waste water a year. If you notice the water meter running even when you are not using water in the house, you may have to check if there’s a burst pipe.
